With all of my time, blood, sweat, tears, and grey hair invested in The Scarlet Gypsy.... I of course feel like it is my baby. So, like most conceptions, I had to take advantage of that window of opportunity...but unlike most conceptions I was totally sober, and I was at work.
I have worked retail management and specialized in visual merchandising since I was 18. In 2012 my career path was getting a bit stagnant and I felt like I had more to offer. I wanted to use the analytical left side of my brain as much as the creative right.... I needed a challenge.
"Be careful what you wish for" certainly applies in this case! I was flipping through a fashion magazine at work and came across a small article about the first fashion truck in LA called Le Fashion Truck. I thought it was such a cool idea. I called my best friend over to check it out, and I said "We should do this!" She looked at me with a blank stare. I can't remember her exact words, but I'm sure it was something like "Ya right, get back to work". I ripped it out of the magazine and stuck it at the bottom of a stack of papers, where it sat for a couple of months.

Some time went by, and I was searching to find my voice within my current job (which I loved). After talking to my Boss, I realized that what I was looking for was something they couldn't give me... It felt like it was time to move on.
The first thing I did was internet research. The concept was pretty new, but fashion trucks were starting to pop up all over the country, there wasn't one in North Dakota...I was going to be the first. I sat down and wrote out names and looked up meanings just like you would with a new baby. I needed to keep in mind that I would be saying this name 20 times a day every day, so it needed to be just right. I liked the concept of a traveling gypsy, and I immediately knew I wanted the truck to be red so it can't be missed. Also I have been coloring my hair red forever...it's kind of my thing. So I looked up different words for red...crimson, rose, cherry, magenta, burgundy...SCARLET! That's the one!!

That business name was available! On April 30th 2012 I registered my trade name before I told ANYONE what I was doing-I didn't want to be talked out of it. The first person I told was my Husband, he of course was hesitant. I told him "We will make it work...It's going to be great" Once I had him on board I started telling my family and close friends. All of the reactions were pretty much the same...blank stares and silence. After a few days and a lot of questions they realized I was dead serious. Everyone got on board, was very supportive, and were ready to cheer me on. It had begun....
